San Francisco

Amphibia traveled to San Francisco in September of 2010. Here were some highlights from the Bay.

The food – and drinks!
We ate delicious seafood at E&O Trading Company. Try the Indonesian corn fritters and the duck confit. But we really enjoyed the atmosphere at a real-life speakeasy called, Bourbon & Branch.

Not for the college crowd, Bourbon & Branch lies behind a unmarked door and requires reservations. They provide you a password and it’s the only way to get in. (For real, we saw them turn people away.) Bourbon & Branch’s menu had bylines for each drink. Proud bartenders happily explained their creations tableside. Many of the drinks were throwbacks to prohibition-era libations. And a good time was had by all in this swanky, dark bar.

The fun!
Alcatraz isn’t just for tourists as we had previously thought. The ranger/audio guide combo is a really cool and interactive way to experience some of the lesser-known pieces of American history and includes narration by former prisoners and guards of the Rock.

For more of the iconic San Francisco experience, don’t miss the streetcars, Fisherman’s Wharf and the breathtaking views from Coit Tower. And it can all be done using public transit without the stress of driving in a strange city and searching for parking spots. Contact us for the details.
